RAF Fighters Return to RAF Northolt:
The RAF has now redeployed some of its Eurofighter Typhoons to RAF Northolt in the west of London to participate in a major security exercise in preparation for the Olympic Games here.
The fighters will be deployed at that base, too, during the actual games. Using Northolt is to cut engagement time against any aircraft threat.Charts depicting the air space restrictions are here. RAF E-3D AWACS and Royal Navy Sea King Airborne Surveillance and Control System, along with ground systems, will be responsible for monitoring the air activity.
The Defense Ministry points out that this week's exercise marks the first time fighters have been deployed to the London base since World War 2.
The flying during Exercise Olympic Guardian is to reach its peak on May 5 and May 6.
