Speed-limiting technology could have prevented the deadly train derailment in Philadelphia, officials said on Wednesday. But Amtrak has yet to install the system on the section of tracks where the crash occurred, even though Congress mandated it be done by the end of the year.
A train traveling from Washington, D.C., to New York City careened off the tracks in Philadelphia around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, killing at least seven people and injuring at least 140 of the 243 passengers.
